RMIA would like to invite ACT members to attend a risk culture workshop on Wednesday 27 February 2019. The workshop will focus on giving you practical skills and knowledge on how to improve risk culture and communications within your own organisation.

With the increased emphasis on culture that’s been brought out in the revised ISO 31000 risk standard as well as the Royal Commission and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) reports, there has never been a better time to think about how you can influence and improve the way your organisation views risk management!

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Gav Schneider (CEO Risk 2 Solution Group and Program Director of the ACU’s Psychology of Risk Program) and Dannya Hu (Principal Consultant, Callida Consulting). Both Gav and Dannya will set the scene by talking about what is culture and what a good risk culture will look like.

Gav’s session will focus on the broader view of what is risk culture and why we often get risk culture wrong. He will then talk about risk intelligence and how people must constantly apply it when making decisions. He will also talk about the social psychology of risk and how this affects your organisation’s risk culture.

This session will enable you to situate your organisation’s challenges and dilemmas a broader context and develop some practical skills for challenging assumptions.

Building on the broader context and challenges set by Gav, Dannya’s session will then focus on giving you practical skills on improving risk culture and communications within your own organisation.  This will include:

  • How do you build a good risk culture? How do you make sure it lasts?
  • How to engage and influence management and the Board.
  • How to engage broadly on risk management across your organisation, including engaging with risk specialists.
  • How to embed risk into processes/decision-making?
  • Rewarding people – how cultural statements are irrelevant if the wrong behaviours and actions are rewarded.

We would also like to hear your thoughts on what you would like to explore in the workshop.CLICK HERE to fill out a short four question survey on any specific aspects of risk culture, communication and reporting you would like to discuss in the workshop.
