Certified Practising Risk Manager - (CPRM®)

The CPRM® certification is designed for professionals with more than five years of risk management experience working in middle or senior risk roles.

CPRM recognises practitioners who demonstrate advanced capability across the RMIA Body of Knowledge and who apply risk management principles to governance, organisational decision-making, leadership, risk culture, assurance, resilience and enterprise wide outcomes.

CPRM candidates are expected to demonstrate not only technical risk management expertise, but also evidence of governance accountability, leadership, organisational influence and practical application of risk management within their organisation.

Mandatory Supporting Documentation

1. Certification Application Form

Completed in full, including:

  • RMBoK domain assessment.

  • Applicant declarations.

  • Two referee attestations.

2. Detailed Current Resume / CV

Your resume must clearly demonstrate:

  • Current and previous risk management roles.

  • Responsibilities and achievements.

  • Governance and leadership experience.

3. Professional Summary/Cover Letter

Applicants must submit a cover letter addressing their experience across the RMIA Body of Knowledge domains.

The cover letter should include practical examples demonstrating:

  • Governance and reporting responsibilities.

  • Risk assessments and treatment activities.

  • Risk appetite and decision-making experience.

  • Leadership and stakeholder influence.

  • Risk frameworks, controls and assurance activities.

  • Measurable outcomes achieved.

4. Qualification and Certification Evidence

Copies of:

  • Academic qualifications.

  • Professional certifications.

  • Risk management education programs, including RMIA Education & Training

  • Relevant professional development activities.

5. Two Referee Endorsements

Applicants must provide two referees who can verify:

  • Risk management experience.

  • Period of employment.

  • Leadership and governance responsibilities.

  • Practical application of the RMIA Body of Knowledge domains.

Failure to provide sufficient supporting evidence may result in:

  • Requests for additional information.

  • Delays in assessment.

  • Referral to an alternative certification level.

  • Deferral pending further evidence.

Tailored Pathways for Diverse Risk Roles

The CPRM® certification is designed to reflect the diversity of the risk profession. Whether you lead enterprise-wide risk strategy or specialise in a particular domain - such as compliance, operations, cybersecurity, or governance - CPRM® offers a flexible pathway to formalise your expertise.

This certification recognises that risk leadership takes many forms. Broad experience across risk functions can be an asset, but it is not a prerequisite. The CPRM® process accommodates professionals from varied backgrounds, allowing you to demonstrate your capabilities and be recognised for the impact you make in your organisation and the profession.

As part of the examination process for CPRM®, candidates need to be familiar with RMIA’s Risk Management Body of Knowledge (RMBoK). Upon applying for CPRM® members have access to the documents below, to study prior to the exam:

  1. RMBoK Domain 1 – Communication and Consultation v2.5

  2. RMBoK Domain 2 – Establish the Context v2.5

  3. RMBoK Domain 3 – Risk Assessment v2.4

  4. RMBoK Domain 4 – Risk Treatment v2.4

  5. RMBoK Domain 5 – Monitoring and Reviewing v2.6

  6. RMBoK Domain 6 – Governance v2.0
