About Event

Adaptive Business Partnering is a practical, insight-rich program designed to help risk professionals strengthen partnerships, deepen influence, and embed risk thinking more effectively across their organisation.

As expectations of risk functions continue to evolve, risk professionals are increasingly asked to move beyond technical expertise and operational support to become true partners to the business. Yet influencing decisions, behaviours and outcomes requires more than knowledge; it requires the ability to understand the cultural context, navigate complexity, and adapt in the moment.

This workshop explores the mindsets and practices of Adaptive Business Partnering, supporting risk professionals to engage more effectively with stakeholders and expand their impact across the system.

Topics Covered

  • The changing role of risk professionals and what it means to be an Adaptive Business Partner

  • Why technical expertise alone is not enough to influence behaviours and outcomes

  • How organisational culture shapes the way people understand, respond to, and act on risk

  • How to recognise different stakeholder needs and adapt your approach to build stronger partnerships

  • Practices for shifting conversations from advice and solutions toward curiosity, ownership and shared accountability

  • How to strengthen influence and create the conditions for better risk outcomes

Andrew Gerkens

Andrew is a culture practitioner, developmental coach and facilitator who helps organisations build capacity to deliver and adapt in a complex world. His career spans executive, People & Culture and Organisational Development roles across defence, logistics, FMCG, manufacturing and the not-for-profit sector, including Chief People Officer and Impact Enablement Partner at Movember, and capability and culture leadership roles at Lion, Visy and the Royal Australian Air Force. In addition to one-on-one coaching, he convenes Communities of Practice for Not-for-Profit Chief People Officers and adaptive cultures practitioners, creating spaces for shared learning and sensemaking around complex cultural work and adaptive leadership.
