Battleground Chats is a risk and resilience podcast hosted by Craig Goldberg, CEO and Founder of Battleground, a company that offers resilience solutions. The podcast features conversations with industry experts who share their experiences and insights on managing and mitigating risks.

To launch RMIA Disaster Reduction Week, Craig will be joined by Jane Whiter, RMIA Interim CEO, and the General Manager of the local council for a candid conversation on leading through major community incidents. Drawing on the response to the Westfield tragedy, the discussion will explore how leaders navigate the shift from an unfolding crisis to a community-wide concern, including early situational awareness, cross-agency coordination, public communication, support for affected people, recovery, and the lessons that strengthen future readiness. Rather than a retrospective on perfect plans, this practical discussion examines the human, operational, and leadership realities of protecting communities when disruption is felt first at home. Live Simulation Exercise | The Suburb in the Dark: A Live Crisis Simulation of Cascading Infrastructure Failure

A power outage is rarely just a power outage. In this live, interactive crisis simulation, participants will navigate a rapidly evolving infrastructure failure that leaves a suburb without power, triggering cascading impacts across telecommunications, transport, payment systems, healthcare access and community safety. As new information emerges and consequences escalate, leaders will be challenged to identify vulnerable people, coordinate across organisations, communicate with the public and make critical decisions under pressure. The exercise will demonstrate how quickly operational dependencies become human impacts and why effective preparedness depends on connected information, clear accountability, tested response arrangements and the ability to adapt as circumstances change.
